Achille Lauro initially started a cruise called Lauro Lines. This company by Lauro entered the cruise Market in the 1960s. At that time it started operation with two ships, One was called Angelina Lauro and the other was named MS Achille Lauro. Unfortunately both of these cruises met fiery ends. After the Angelina Lauro burnt in the port of St.Thomas in 1979, Lauro Lines, also known as Flotta Lauro, met with bad times, now operating just one ship, the Achille Lauro. This is very bad, but do you know that in 1985, the Achille Lauro was hijacked by members of the Palestine Liberation Front, and the much-publicised event further dropped passenger numbers. In 1989, Flotta Lauro was purchased by Mediterranean Shipping Company and renamed StarLauro Cruises. there was another incident, when in 1994, the Achille Lauro Ship caught fire and sank. In 1995, the company name was changed to MSC Cruises. It is a some thing really disturbing history, but the MSC Cruises are the name for Mediterranean Cruises in 2012.
Do you know that MSC Cruises is the fourth largest cruise operation company in the world. The Other four Cruise operation companies are Carnival Corporation & plc, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Norwegian Cruise Line.
